Cleaning hacks when you’re feeling lazy or just too busy – Learn how to clean the house with these maintenance cleaning tips
People say “lazy” like it’s a bad thing. Personally I embrace the laziness in myself. We all work so hard at a lot of things these days – our online life, home life, our relationships, actual work – it’s all pretty exhausting if you ask me.
So, who’s to judge if we want to look for ways to do the less important stuff so we can focus on the things that really matter? Not I, certainly, which is why I put together this list of ways to keep a (mostly) clean home when you don’t have time for more than the bare minimum.

Lazy Cleaning Hack: Embrace the Robots
I am ALL ABOUT accepting every little bit of help from our robot overlords. If I could have the house that the Jetsons lived in, I would in a second.
But while I’m dreaming about that day being hopefully in the near future, I can at least celebrate the technological marvels we already have today. Like the Ecovacs Robot Vacuum. I set this thing to roam for a couple hours every day on our hardwood floors and it covers the minimum upkeep beautifully!
Especially with our cat constantly tracking cat litter and fur everywhere. It does handle carpet and rugs well too, but we primarily use it for solid surfaces. As an added bonus, it keeps me in the habit of keeping stuff off the floor.
Quick Cleaning Tip: Learn to Multitask Like a Pro
If there’s one main theme to cleaning in the laziest way possible, it’s efficiency. Sounds counterintuitive, but the best way to conserve your energy is to cram as much as possible into the most limited amount of time as possible.
Always trying to accomplish more than one thing at a time is ideal. For example, if I’m in the kitchen washing my hands and drying them with a paper towel, I’ll use that paper towel to wipe down the counters before throwing it away.
And now I’m even beginning to branch out into something better: REUSABLE PAPER TOWELS! Why haven’t I always had these in my life? Save yourself money and time by buying less paper towels.
One set of paper towels can also be used to quickly and easily wipe down the bathroom. I’ve found the best order is to start with the mirror, then do the sink and counter and finish with the toilet.
While we’re talking about multitasking and bathrooms, a DIY daily shower spray like one of these from BobVila.com is the easiest way to keep a regular handle on shower cleaning before it gets out of control.
Housekeeping Hack: Cook Bigger Meals
When it comes to cooking, less is more. What I mean by that is, if you can limit the number of times you have to cook, you’ll have less clean up to do.
Aim for cooking larger meals, less often. You can always freeze portions if you get sick of leftovers in something like the reusable bags below. This has the multi-benefit of saving you money in your budget as well.

Home Cleaning Secret: The Dishes (Just Do Them)
Dishes are just a constant reality in my house, as I suspect they are in yours. I don’t know how it happens, they just seem to collect and multiply. The only way I know of to stay on top of it is to just take the few minutes and clean them as soon as they are in the sink.
It really doesn’t take as long as you think. Really, I’m pretty sure it’s just one of those things that seems like a super involved task until you start doing it. Your perception is everything here, if you can just get yourself to begin, it’s over before you know it. And taking full advantage of the dishwasher makes all the difference – thank you again, automation!
Tricks for Easier Cleaning: Tackle Laundry One Load at a Time
Laundry, like the dishes, has a real tendency to pile up. Every time I turn around the basket is full…again. So, like another main theme here, take care of it in little chunks throughout the week so you’re not stuck doing it all on the weekend.
Even if that means washing and drying it one day and folding it the next. That’s still something.
Also, going back to the multitasking idea from earlier, if you sit down to watch TV in the evening you could use that time to fold laundry. This allows you to accomplish a boring task that has to get done while still focusing on something you want to do.
I convince myself to do all kinds of chores this way. If I can do something with the TV on in the background or while listening to an audiobook, somehow the task is infinitely easier.
Final Thoughts on Cleaning Tips for Lazy or Busy People
Overall, I’d say the biggest thing is mindset when it comes to cleaning. First, recognize that it’s never going to be perfect and that it’s okay! It is always an ongoing work in progress.
Once you let that go, you then have room to appreciate everything you do accomplish each day. It’s easy to slip into the downward spiral of thinking about the cleaning instead of doing the cleaning. And the more you think about it, the larger it seems.
So snap yourself out of that by starting on a small task. Soon you’ll start to realize it doesn’t take as much effort as you thought. Remember that any progress is still progress! I believe in you 🙂
