Why would you want to write stuff on the internet for people you don’t know? That’s the first question that popped into my head after I initially had this idea. You know, it’s always that secondary voice in your head that responds to the first voice which dares to have a thought that is even approaching something unusual or out of the ordinary routine? Okay maybe it’s the same voice – let’s not get too crazy here on my first post talking about multiple voices in my head. That’s not exactly a great first impression!
So, going back to the beginning. What made me think that I, some anonymous nobody, had any right starting a blog? And my answer to that is: what makes anyone think they can do things? It’s simply because they decided one day to just go out and do it! No one gives Olympic athletes the permission to start training, they just start. I wasn’t an art history major in college by any means but I’m pretty sure nobody said to Picasso “Look man, I’m going to need you to wait a few months before you pick up that paintbrush because I really just need to get my head around things and do some planning.” No! He just went for it! And that’s what I’d like to do too. Because I said so. Now wait, let’s set the bar appropriately, I don’t intend for this humble blog to be on par with the likes of Chloe Kim or world famous painters or anything like that but what I would like is for it to accomplish several things:
- Provide me with a creative outlet – For a while now I have been craving a project that I could work on and send out into the world to watch it grow. As I type that in the context of being a 30 year old childless woman I realize that sounds suspiciously like what I actually want is a baby. Which is not *not* true, it’s just not true right now. I think. I have a lot of thoughts on this which we’ll save for a future post.
- Improve my writing skills – as I’m sure you can see just as evidenced above I’m going to need A LOT of practice here!
- Help you – Yes dear reader I hope that maybe somewhere in all of this word soup you will find some sort of golden tidbit of value here, or at the very least some entertainment for your day.
Now that we’ve got that covered there’s one more list I’d like to subject you to with this introduction, while probably breaking some unanimously known “Blog Writing Rules” or whatever but I like lists so there will be many of them! In some cases more than one in a post! Also many exclamation points!
Got carried away for a moment there with what I like to call the freedom-to-do-what-I-want-itude, but what I wanted to get to was what this blog will be about and why I chose the name ‘This Frugal Flipping Life.’
- Frugality – from tips to just general money discussion I have been listening/reading SO MUCH about reaching that magic state of being, called: Financially Independent. If you haven’t heard of the FI Movement you should go Google that right now and change your life! Or you could just keep reading this blog and learn a little about it along the way.
- Flipping – this is a bit of a tongue in cheek double meaning which I just can’t resist when I’m making stuff up. First it’s referencing another word that starts with F which you probably don’t want to put in a brand name/domain name else suffer the dumb stigma that is “unwholesomeness” from search filters and such. But more importantly I am absolutely enthralled by home renovation. Not only am I a real estate agent myself, my husband and I have just rented out the first and only home we’ve ever bought and loved. So I will be chronicling our foray into investment home ownership as well as regaling you (hopefully) with tales of how we added upgrades of the DIY nature to the house and also talking about our planned adventures into future home flips.
- Life – Pretty self explanatory, I just wanted to leave myself some wiggle room to post about whatever matters to me in my life at the moment, whether that’s cleaning hacks or personal philosophy on how to become better.
Well I’d say that’s about it for the introductions. Scattered and unfocused enough for you? I’m pretty awkward at intros anyway so I’m glad to end it here before I write something so terrible that future me has to be incredibly embarrassed about. Hi future me! Don’t cringe with your face like that so much, it creates wrinkles!
